Our Story

Nau mai, Haere mai. Welcome to the Home Educators Student Sports Association, HESSA. Our purpose is to support Home Educated children across the country to participate and compete at every level of sport in New Zealand. 

2023 saw approximately 11,000 students registered as Home Educating in New Zealand, our goal is to increase opportunities for tamariki (ages 5-11) and rangatahi (ages 12-19) across both active recreation and competitive sport.

We work alongside parents, coaches, regional and national sporting organisations and funders to improve access to sports at local, regional and national level, for those already involved in sports and those who are just getting started.

HESSA is an incorporated society established in 2023.
